As a result of the new partnership between Ignite Travel Group and Flight Centre Travel Group, a new brand ‘GET LUXE’  has now entered the market offering limited-time deals, including domestic and international holiday packages that feature exclusive “LUX UPs”, available through Flight Centre’s 165 plus Escape Travel stores and online.

Wellness tourism up
Revenue from wellness tourism grew 14% from 2013-2015, according to new Global Wellness Institute research. The study found wellness tourism accounts for 15.6% of total tourism revenues and that wellness travellers spend 61% more per trip than the average international tourist.

Holiday intentions grow
For the year ending June 2016, the number of Australians (over the age of 14) intending to travel abroad rose to 10.6% of the population, up from 6.0% a decade earlier, Roy Morgan data shows. New Zealand remains the most popular destination at 18%, but down from 19.5% 10 years ago. Holiday intention for the USA jumped from 14.6% to now be 17.8%, taking out second place, with Japan and Indonesia also increasing.

Qantas, Airbnb FF partnership
Qantas Frequent Flyer continues to revolutionize the way customers can accrue Qantas Points, launching a new arrangement with accommodation provider, Airbnb. In a ‘first’ for Airbnb, Frequent Flyer members will be able to book Airbnb accommodation via Qantas’ website.

Helloworld buys into MTA Travel
Helloworld has acquired 50% of mobile travel agent network MTA Travel with an option to acquire the remaining 50% after 5 years. The deal has been cited as a strategic decision to enter a sector of the industry that has experienced significant growth over the past few years.

Freestyle Holidays sold
Sydney-based Si Travel Group has announced the acquisition of Freestyle Holidays, with the deal also including the license to operate Fiji’s Rosie Holidays in Australia. The acquisition from Pinpoint Travel Group will be effective December 01, 2016.

Get Global Website launch
Get Global, the country’s newest MICE business platform dedicated to outbound product has officially launched its website. The one-day trade show is the brainchild of Gary Bender of World Corporate Travel and Donna Kessler from Tourism Portfolio. Get Global will be held at the new International Convention Centre Sydney on July 28, 2017.
